Jomell also helps homeless people obtain a shelter, counsels troubled teens, speaks to neglected and abused children, and assists many runaway teens, as well. He describes that one of the main reasons for teen's runaway can be freedom. They want a better life, but they end up roaming in the streets, or get indulged in illegal activities. Jomell tells that a huge count of teenagers run away from their home every year for various reasons.

Since, Jomell Thomas has helped a number of runaway teens; he has a thorough understanding about their specific behavior, and has the expertise on how these children can be handled. He describes some of the reasons that force these kids to run away from their home, include physical abuse, family problem, drug or alcohol abuse, pregnancy issue, school or peer pressure, and sexual abuse, etc. Jomell further adds that there are a few things that motivate teenagers to take this step. These include:

- To stop or change what they are about to do or are doing.

- To avoid an emotional consequence or experience, which they are expecting in some future situation.

- To avoid the loss of relationships, friendships, or activities that are considered worthwhile or important.

- To escape an ongoing or recurrent painful, difficult, or unpleasant experience in their life.

- To be in places or be with other individuals who are distractions from other issues in their life.

- To be with other people who are motivating, supportive, and active.

Jomell Thomas gives some tips what parents can do when their teens run away from their home. These include:

- Checking his or her room for signs of preparation. Parents can ask their teachers, coaches, and friends, etc. for ideas.

- Thinking about the places where their child wants to go.

- Contact the friends of the teen and try to search him or her there.
