Jomell Thomas Wallingford loves helping children who face various difficulties in their life. He counsels troubled teenagers, assists run away, speaks to neglected and abused children, and supports people suffering from autism and breast cancer. He says that the thought of childhood brings back happy memories, which might include a loud snowball fight of a freezing winter afternoon, or icy dips in a backyard pool on hot summer days. The thought of childhood may bring back the memories of holidays, family gatherings, etc., whereas for some kids this time might not be lucky enough to have these types of memories. The memories of their childhood might bring back traumatizing thoughts of emotional, sexual, or physical abuse.

Jomell Thomas Wallingford says that child abuse counseling is a particular field that focuses on treating kids who have suffered because of their trusted loved ones. A professional counselor generally witnesses the scars and marks on children, including visible or otherwise. Listed below are a few examples of the outrageous behaviors, which a child abuse counselor might bear witness to:

Emotional Abuse:

- Name calling
- Screaming
- Derogatory statements
- Unreasonable expectations
- Exposure to disturbing situations or images

Physical Abuse:

- Pushing
- Punching
- Hitting
- Kicking

Neglect:

- Leaving a young child unattended
- Rejection
- Inadequate food, medical attention, shelter, or clothing

Sexual Abuse:

- Intercourse
- Fondling
- Oral sex
- Exposure to sexual acts or materials
- Taking pornographic photographs or movies

Jomell Thomas Wallingford describes that child abuse can be one of the most disturbing experiences, which can happen to children. Studies have shown that kids who are abused might have low self esteem, substance abuse problems, and are more emotionally detached. He says that in a number of ways, abuse also begets abuse, which means that male children who have been sufferers are more probable to become abusers themselves, whereas female victims are more likely to get trapped in offensive relationships just like adults. Jomell tells that a friendly, non judgmental, and an approachable child abuse counselor can provide the best treatment to the victim.
